About the cycle

The Torah is read through once a year, in fifty-four portions, beginning again at Bereshit on the Shabbat after Simchat Torah. Because a year has fewer than fifty-four Shabbatot most years, certain pairs are joined together - Vayakhel-Pekudei, Tazria-Metzora and others - which is why some weeks show two names.

Israel and the diaspora

This list follows the Israeli schedule. When the last day of Pesach falls on a Shabbat, Israel and the diaspora read different portions for a few weeks until they rejoin. If you are outside Israel, check against your own community during that stretch.
